SECA

ADVICE TO MEMBERS ON SHIPS ENTERING IN SECA

MARPOL Annex VI has designated the Baltic Sea (19 May 2006) and the North Sea (November 2007) as Sulphur Emissions Control Areas (SECAs). In accordance with Regulation 14 of Annex VI to MARPOL, ships entering the SECAs are required only to use marine fuels with a sulphur content not exceeding 1.5% m/m.  Alternatively, an exhaust gas cleaning system capable of reducing SOx emissions to 6.0 g/kWh and below may be used.
