9 November 2017
INTERTANKO's Lay-up and Reactivation Guidelines for Gas Carriers.
INTERTANKO's GTC developed general guidelines on lay-up (and reactivation) of gas tankers to provide Members with consolidated guidance to assist with the planning and execution of lay-up/reactivation operations, which can have critical financial implications for owners.
The guidelines cover the following areas:
- Preparation for different types of lay-up programme (warm, cold, etc.) for gas carriers.
- Supervision during lay-up (minimum crew, external parties, etc.)
- Preservation and corrosion protection of machinery. (diesel/steam) for gas carriers.
- Periodic inspections of laid up vessels.
- Reactivation of assets (should consider period of lay-up, consideration if vessel requires dry-dock or underwater cleaning, etc.)
- Advising appropriate authorities and ensuring that Flag/Class carry the proper lay-up survey.
