IMO submission ISWG-AP1 (Intersessional Working Group on Air Pollution)
IMO has set a global limit for sulphur content in fuel oil used on board ships of 0.50% m/m (mass by mass) from 1 January 2020. Many ships are expected to comply with the 2020 regulatory framework by choosing to use 0.50% m/m sulphur content compliant fuel oils.
In order to ensure consistent implementation of the 2020 sulphur content limit, an IMO’s intersessional working group on air pollution (ISWG-AP1) will meet on 9-13 July 2018 to develop a single set of new 2020 Guidelines and draft amendments to MARPOL Annex VI. The Intersessional Working Group will report the outcome to the IMO’s Sub-Committee on Pollution Prevention and Response (PPR) and Maritime Environment Protection Committee (MEPC).
