Temporary storage of grey water and/or treated sewage in ballast water tanks
The International Maritime Organization (IMO)’s Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) approved the Guidance on the temporary storage of grey water and/or treated sewage in ballast water tanks (BWM.2/Circ.82) in March 2024.
This guidance outlines a procedure for temporarily storing treated sewage and/or grey water in ballast water tanks. It is intended for situations where a ship is required to store treated sewage or grey water in ballast water tanks to adhere to coastal State regulations or due to insufficient reception facilities.
