Terms of Reference
TERMS OF REFERENCE
LATIN AMERICAN PANEL
1. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
The overall aim is to promote the activities and priorities of the Latin American membership in relation to INTERTANKO governing bodies and committees. To this end the Panel shall:
1.1. Promote the policies and strategies of the Association in Latin America.
1.2. Act as resource group for the INTERTANKO bodies, establishing priorities and raising matters of concern to the Latin American tanker community.
1.3. Act as a catalyst for boosting the participation and involvement of the members based in Latin America in the activities of the Association.
1.4. Co-operate with other industry bodies in the region to achieve the harmonisation of best trading conditions for the tanker owners and promote safety at sea and the protection of the environment.
1.5. The INTERTANKO Latin American Panel should pay due regard to relevant work being done by INTERTANKO committees and guide its activities in line with the policies endorsed by the Council.
2. MEMBERSHIP
The Latin American Panel is an open forum for INTERTANKO’s members and associate members involved in ship operations who are based in Latin America. It is an INTERTANKO Forum constituted by and responsible to INTERTANKO.
3. CHAIRMAN AND VICE-CHAIRMEN
The Chairman, who preferably should be an INTERTANKO Council Member, and 3 Vice Chairmen shall be nominated by the Panel for election by the Council. The term of office for the Chairman and Vice-Chairmen is a two-year period which can extended for another year.
4. MEETINGS
The Latin American Panel is to meet as necessary, but not less than twice a year sufficiently in advance of Council meetings at venues to be decided by the Chairman of the Panel and the INTERTANKO Office.
5. TRAVEL EXPENSES
The travel expenses of the Panel’s membership should be paid for by the member company.
6. TERMS OF REFERENCE
The Terms of the Reference shall be approved by INTERTANKO’s Executive Committee and Council.
7. SECRETARIAL
The INTERTANKO Secretariat undertakes the Secretarial and administrative tasks for the Latin American Panel.
8. REPORTING
The INTERTANKO Latin American Panel through its Chairman will report to the Executive Committee and the Council of INTERTANKO. All follow-up actions must be forwarded to the appropriate Committees.

Meetings
The Latin American Panel meets once a year under an elected chairperson supported by a member of the Secretariat, who also serves as a regional manager and first contact for Members.
